A Kick-off Climb to 2018

It has been 24 hours since the fire started.

Alegria Heritage Park at night.

We arrived in Alegria at almost 1030PM, and it’s pretty late. We rented a motorcycle from the heritage park to Brgy. Lumpan for P50/each. It was a smooth ride the whole time.

When we arrived at Brgy. Lumpan, we gathered together for a pre-orientation climb and for few reminders what to do and what not during the whole trek. Also an individual prayer for a safe and sound trek. We started to trek to the guide’s house. All flashlights were turned off, as discussed, we used to talk loudly but at this moment, everyone seemed to hiss and chitchat silently. I loved the time when we were just walking amidst the darkness, with no lights and just relying on the shine of the stars and our own eyes and of course everyone was vigilant on what’s happening around us. It was almost 1130 when we reached the guide’s house. Kayla and I decided to just wear our slippers instead of wearing our sandals and shoes.

We then started to ascend to the campsite. It’s actually my first night trek. Wearing sandals/shoes is really better than  just wearing our slippers. It was almost an hour to reach the camp site. The camp site, isn’t that big but it’s just enough for us- 8 tents. Our slippers survived the trail. On the camp site, there’s actually a lamp post and that’s our indication if we’re almost reaching the site.

We finally arrived at 12:30MN and everyone pitched their tents and few are preparing the food as well. We haven’t had a real dinner yet. After the dinner, we gathered together to introduce ourselves and get to know each other. New faces, new friends in a new place for 2018-amazing, isn’t it? Together with Kayla and Jane, we just slept out while the guys were having their own socials.

It’s a good-morning from us!
The campsite isn’t that big, we got 8 tents, and it’s just enough.

At 8:00 AM, we ascended to Kalo-kalo Peak, and it only took 15-20 minutes for us to reach the peak. I can’t really see a good angle to capture the beauty at the top of Kalo-kalo Peak.

The Kalo-kalo Peak!
View from the peak.

At 8:30, we decided to descend to Brgy. Legaspi. We were descending reasons why ropes weren’t used that time, but it’s recommended to bring ropes too. It didn’t rain, that’s why it wasn’t that difficult to descend but somehow it was very challenging to us. There’s a descending part where the angle seems to be at 75%-80%. You only have rocks to hold on to. After that, everything is just pretty descending. We had a buko session for P30 at the foot of the mountain for our break time.

After which, there is still a 30-minutes walk to the highway.

Peaceful rest after a 4-hour trek.

Side trip: Montpeller Falls

After our lunch infront of the Alegria Heriage Park, we decided to atleast visit one waterfall in Alegria. We have chosen the Cambais Falls, however the fare going to Cambais Falls is very expensive. It’s P300/person, so we decided to go to Montpeller Falls instead, and that’s the nearest from the Heritage Park. From the the park, it took us almost 15-20 minutes to the entry point of the falls. There was another 15-20 minutes trek. Seriously, I didn’t expect that this one is worth visiting when in Alegria.  It seems to be one of the tallest falls in Alegria. I haven’t been to Mantayupan Falls yet, so I really can’t decide if this is the tallest among all other waterfalls in Cebu.

At 2:30, we went back to the highway to wait for the bus. It was a great adventure to start my 2018
